| Bio.Historical.Note | The 6888th Central Postal Battalion arrived in England in February of 1945 under the command of Major Charity Adams. Postal operations had not kept up with combat operations resulting in a huge backlog of mail in the European theater. While serving as Battalion Commander, Charity Edna Adams Earley was promoted to Lt. Colonel. Earley joined the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in 1942. She graduated from the first Officers Candidate Class at Ft. Des Moines, IA. She was the first black officer to receive a commission in the U.S. Army. |
